The airborne sound transducer experiment kit is designed as a straightforward addition to the inoson PCM ultrasound system for initial experiments and custom laboratory set-ups.
The kit contains air-coupled transducers for three different operating frequencies, thereby enabling a quick introduction to the investigation of ultrasonic applications in air. The transducers can be connected directly to the PCM via SMA connectors and can be used for both pulse-echo and transmission measurements.
Unlike application-specific transducers, the experiment kit is specifically designed for flexible experimental set-ups, feasibility studies and fundamental laboratory investigations.
Three frequencies for different test set-ups
The set contains a total of six airborne sound transducers:
- 2 × 120 kHz
- 2 × 200 kHz
- 2 × 300 kHz
The three available frequency ranges allow different measurement tasks to be investigated and the behaviour of ultrasound in air to be compared at various operating frequencies. The transducers, supplied in pairs, enable both pulse-echo experiments and set-ups with separate transmit and receive transducers.
Connection & Mounting
The experiment kit includes two SMA cables, each 1 m long. These allow the transducers to be connected directly to the PCM’s SMA sockets without the need for additional adaptors. In conjunction with the PCM’s flexibly configurable signal generation and data acquisition, this enables users to quickly set up their own experimental set-ups.
The transducers feature a continuous external thread, allowing them to be flexibly integrated into experimental set-ups.
- 120 kHz transducer: M30 × 1
- 200 kHz transducer: M30 × 1
- 300 kHz transducer: M18 × 1
The transducers can either be screwed directly into a suitable mounting or secured using the plastic nuts supplied. Two matching nuts are included in the set for each transducer. This makes it easy to adjust the position and orientation of the transducers, even in simple laboratory and prototype set-ups.
Typical applications
The experiment kit is particularly suitable for:
- initial feasibility studies using ultrasound in air
- Time-of-flight and distance measurements
- Reflection and transmission experiments
- Investigating different operating frequencies
- Setting up your own laboratory and demonstration experiments
- Research, development and training
For applications with specific requirements regarding range, radiation pattern, design or environmental conditions, inoson also offers custom-designed ultrasonic transducers.
